Sarah Vanrenen

Sarah Vanrenen has been one of the UK’s leading interior designers for more than 20 years. She has undertaken a broad range of residential and commercial projects in the UK and abroad and in both the countryside and the city. We work on large construction-based projects as well as smaller projects requiring a lighter touch.

We believe we can bring significant value to our clients when working alongside architects and contractors from the outset of a project.  Prior to planning, we are often involved to ensure that the general layouts work on a practical level, overlaying architects’ plans with kitchen and bathroom designs as well as lighting and electrical layouts.

In this way, we also make sure that early considerations have been made for furniture, artwork, lighting and window treatments and that the rooms and spaces are harmonious.  So often the practical elements that make a house a comfortable place to live can be overlooked in the early stages and it becomes more costly and complicated to amend these further down the line.

Our growing team is based between our two offices; our main studio space near Hungerford and our office in Notting Hill.

About Sarah Vanrenen

Profile

Although Sarah leans towards classical, symmetrical architecture, her style incorporates a modern edge with her own innovative and distinctive designs of fabric, wallpaper and furniture using colour and pattern in equal measures.  She has been designing fabrics and wallpapers for the last 7 years and these are sold with the Penny Morrison range.

Recently she has launched a large, stand-alone collection of colourful wallpapers, which are sold under her own collection of homewares around the World.  The studio also has a very popular and growing range of furniture and products that are designed in house and produced in the UK by skilled craftsmen.

In recent years, Sarah has worked on a number of traditional English country houses as well as modern city abodes in London and abroad.  She believes a home should always look as comfortable and as be as interesting as possible, as though it has been lived in and the things in it have been accumulated with love and time by the owner.

Sarah and Laura work with an in house architect to produce the perfect layouts that incorporate every tiny detail of their clients lifestyles.  “We pride ourselves on being extremely good at listening to and interpreting our clients’ vision to accommodate their way of living”.  They love to find individual furniture, textiles, rugs, lamps and artwork, in order to make each home look unique.  Scouring markets, galleries, and little places off the beaten track to find that original piece.

We are as happy to work on a clean blank canvas of pale colours and adding character with furniture, upholstery and accessories.  However, Sarah’s true love is the use of brave colour and pattern and helping her clients understand how to use them.

Laura Hanbury

Laura trained at KLC School of Interior Design before beginning her career at Mlinaric, Henry and Zervudachi and then joining Sarah Vanrenen Ltd.

Having worked on a wide range of projects in both the UK and abroad, Laura’s approach is thoughtful and considered.  She understands the importance of working in harmony with the architecture of the building to create interiors that are both beautiful and timeless as well as being spaces to be lived in and enjoyed.

Laura strongly believes that incorporating colour, pattern and layers of interest with antiques and artwork is the key to creating comfortable, atmospheric rooms that feel as if they have evolved naturally over time.
